Consent comes first
We collect farmer and FPO data only after obtaining informed consent, explained in the farmer’s own language, before any data collection begins. No field evidence, satellite monitoring, or land data is processed for an individual farmer until that farmer’s consent is recorded. Farmers may withdraw consent and request data deletion at any time, subject to Section 9 below.
3. How We Use Personal Data
• To operate and improve our carbon verification (MRV) platform, including verifying climate-smart agricultural practices.
• To calculate and process carbon credit-related outcomes and any associated farmer payments.
• To communicate with you about our programs, respond to inquiries, and provide updates relevant to your participation.
• To comply with legal, regulatory, and reporting obligations, including those relating to carbon credit verification standards and Validation and Verification Body (VVB) requirements.
• To improve our website and services through aggregated, non-identifying analytics.
4. Legal Basis for Processing
Under the DPDP Act, we process personal data primarily on the basis of your informed consent. Where applicable, we may also process data as necessary to comply with a legal obligation, or for other grounds recognized under the DPDP Act.
5. How We Share Personal Data
• With accredited Validation and Verification Bodies (VVBs), such as prospective partners we are engaging with, solely for the purpose of independently verifying carbon claims — limited to the data reasonably necessary for that verification.
• With Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) or farmer-network partners, solely to the extent necessary to coordinate program participation, and subject to the same consent principles.
• With service providers who help us operate our platform (e.g., cloud hosting, data storage), under confidentiality obligations.
• As required by law, regulation, or a valid legal process.
We do not sell personal data. We do not share farmer financial or identity data with any party for marketing purposes.
6. Data Security
• Encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256) for stored data.
• Role-based access controls, limiting data access to personnel who need it for their role.
• An append-only audit log of data actions on farmer and field records.
• Hosting of data within India, consistent with data sovereignty expectations under applicable Indian regulation.
7. Data Retention
We retain personal data for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, including any applicable carbon credit crediting and audit period, and thereafter as required by applicable law. Consent records are retained as evidence of lawful processing.
8. Your Rights
Under the DPDP Act, you have the right to:
• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Correct or update inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
• Withdraw your consent at any time (withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal).
• Request erasure of your personal data, subject to our legal and legitimate business retention needs (e.g., audit requirements tied to already-issued carbon credits).
• Nominate another individual to exercise your rights on your behalf, in the event of your death or incapacity, as permitted under the DPDP Act.
• Lodge a grievance with our Grievance Officer (see Section 11), and thereafter with the Data Protection Board of India, if unresolved.
10. Children’s Data
Our website and programs are not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from individuals under 18 years of age without verifiable parental or guardian consent, where such processing is otherwise permitted by law.
